The Single Shot
Peaceful Pill

In 2007, a small group of Exit International members gathered in Queensland to trial the “Single Shot” coffee pot pressure vessel for the manufacture of the euthanasia Peaceful Pill.

The equipment was developed by members in South Australia and used small quantities of ingredients to make a single Peaceful Pill in a process that takes less than 24 hours and can be carried out in the kitchen. A description of theĀ Single Shot process can be seen here.

This development followed the pioneering work of a group of 20 Exit members who set out in 2005. Dubbed the ‘Peanut Project’, the goal of the original group was to synthesis a lethal barbiturate mixture. An early commercial assay analysis of the synthesised barbiturate crystals was carried out using GC/MS techniques in early 2007, providing the pioneer group with encouragement for their endeavours.

Other groups have since moved beyond the initial project, improving the methodology and outcomes.

Details of this process have produced a series of ‘Betty teaching videos’ which are included in The Peaceful Pill eHandbook.
