Welcome to 2026

In a world of increasing uncertainties, one thing is sure. And that is the need for reliable information on how to achieve a peaceful DIY death, should the need ever arise.

Self-determination at the end is more important than ever so our New Year Sale offers 10% off all books!

The Peaceful Pill eHandbook Essentials book’s criteria for a good death is not only reliability and peacefulness. Issues of preparation, speed, un-detectability, safety, storage and legality are also evaluated for each method discussed.

For those who like the idea of a final trip to Switzerland (or appreciate the privacy that a Swiss death affords, and do not mind the expense), Exit’s Going to Switzerland: how to plan your final exit is recommended.

The online editions of the Peaceful Pill eHandbook and Going to Switzerland are available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish.

The print editions of both books are published in English and Dutch only.

Quo Vardis for Sarco?

Ever since the Sarco was first used in Switzerland in September 2024, the public prosecutor in Schaffhausen has had the device under investigation.

This lengthy criminal procedure has brought the first phase of the project (Sarco’s successful first use) to an abrupt halt.

At the current time, and as extraordinary as it may sound, the Schaffhausen canton prosecutor is appealing in the Swiss Federal Court to get access to Exit’s privileged legal advice leading up to the use of Sarco. Exit is fighting this action.

Remember the concept of legal privilege is a cornerstone of the rule of law.

The prosecutor is also attempting to extradite 2 computers and the Venice Design display model of Sarco from the Netherlands to Switzerland. They say to ‘assist with their inquiries’. All of these legal processes take time.

Looking Forward, however, 2026 will be the year of the new Double Dutch Sarco which will allow a couple to go peacefully together.

The next model Sarco is in production in Rotterdam and is expected to be completed mid 2026.

A positive aspect of the Sarco is that it is replicable. So while the Swiss prosecutor may have one model, there are plenty more where that came from.

The Exit community will continue to be kept up-to-date with all developments, legal and otherwise on the Sarco Project which continues in the name of the late Florian Willet.

Florian was the only person present when the woman used the Sarco to die in Switzerland. He tragically committed suicide in Germany in May 2025 while suffering from an acute psychosis brought on by his pre-trial detention at the hands of the Schaffhausen prosecutor.

A New Sarco Website will replace the existing Sarco.design website in the coming months. Watch this space!

The so-called ‘Korean Method’ has been on the Exit R&D radar (off and on) for a number of years.

In 2025, Exit focused again on this potential method of peaceful DIY dying.

The main driver of our interest is that it represents a method that is:

  • Legal
  • Can be made at home
  • Is cheap & simple to construct of items that cannot be banned
  • Will be reliable & peaceful

Over the past 6 months there have been 2 iterations of the newly-named Kairos Kollar with more to come.

Exit expects testing to take place in the coming months.

Once the results are finalised & the efficacy is defined (there can be no room for error), the results will be published in the Peaceful Pill eHandbook.

Exit Conferences in 2026

Did you know that 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of Australia’s Rights of the Terminally Ill Act.

This law (in the Northern Territory of Australia) was the first that allowed a terminally ill person to ask for help from a doctor to die.

While the law lasted only 9 months, 4 of Philip Nitschke’s patients were able to use the law to have a peaceful death.

Those people were: Bob, Janet, Bill and Valerie.

To commemorate the world’s first voluntary assisted dying law, Exit will be holding a conference in Canberra, Australia on 22-23 September.

Since it was on 22 September 1996 that Bob Dent became the first person in the world to receive a legal, lethal, voluntary injection.

Via the Deliverance Machine computer, Bob was able to put an end to his suffering from prostate cancer.

The conference program will be released shortly.

Reserve the Date = Canberra + 22-23 September 2026

NUTECH @ AMSTERDAM

The next conference of NuTech (new technologies in dying) will be held in Amsterdam over the weekend of 17-18 October, 2026.

Exit International welcomes working with the CLW group (Cooperation Last Will)  in the Netherlands to make this gathering a success.

The conference will be focused on practical DIY strategies.

Both conferences will feature a screening of the documentary by Analeine Cal y Mayor, Sweet Death.

An audience Q&A with the director and the documentary’s lead characters (Kathy Beech & Philip Nitschke) is also scheduled.

The conference program will be released in the coming months.

Reserve the Date = Amsterdam + 17-18 October 2026

Exit Fundraising in 2026

With 3 non-profit organisations to choose from – 2 with tax deductability status – 2026 will be a year of intense fund-raising for Exit International.

In Australia, donations/ bequests are gratefully received at Final Exit (Australia) Ltd which operates as Exit International.

In the US, Exit Generation is Exit’s 501(c)3 which allows for tax deductible donations to the full extent of US law.

In the Netherlands, Stichting TIID (Tech Innovations in Dying) has recently been established. TIID is an ANBI Stichting (Foundation) with tax deductibility status.

Exit International is the only organisation focused on practical, DIY self-determination at the end of life.

Exit’s R&D relies on the generosity of supporters. So if you see value in the work of Exit International, please donate.

This includes defending the Sarco device in Swiss courts.

Exit will call upon the community at regular intervals over the next 12 months to support the work of the organisation.

No AI on the Exit Phone or Email

Over the past 12 months, AI seems to have taken over almost all avenues that we, as humans, have to connect with the services we use.

More often than not, this is to infuriating effect.

This is why at Exit, we are committed to maintaining the ‘human touch’, even though this costs more money than an AI quick-fix.

Exit appreciates the real life connection (via phone and email) with our members and subscribers.

This is why when you email or phone Exit in 2026, (even if you initially encounter our message service), you can be assured that you will be responded to by a real life human being, and not by an AI avatar.

Let’s keep AI for tasks for which it could seriously be ground-changing. Eg. mental capacty assessments.

We are here for you.
