New Italian Feature Documentary on Exit
After many years in the making, the Italian feature documentary Landscapes of Ending will premiere at the 67th Festival dei Popoli in Florence on 6 November 2026.
The Festival dei Popoli is the oldest documentary festival in Italy.
Landscapes of Ending is the only Italian documentary amongst the 10 finalists in competition.
FILM SYNOPSIS
Directed by award-winning Italian film maker Francesco Mattuzzi (Producer Luca Bich), this new intensely thought-provoking documentary charts three story lines:
- English Biology Professor, Chris Faulkes, who seeks to uncover the secret of longevity by the close study of naked ‘mole rats’
- ‘Live forever’ ethos / lifestyle at Arizona’s famed Sun City West Seniors Community, and the older women who make up the legendary Poms dance troop.
Finally, Landscapes of Ending focuses upon a 75-year old Italian Exit member, Sabina, from Tuscany, as she contemplates using the Sarco to die.
This documentary is unique for a whole range of reasons, not least because it contains rare footage of the actual Sarco that was used in Switzerland in 2024.
No one could have imagined the uproar that would take place in Switzerland, 8 years ago when this documentary began filming.
This is a film that dives deep into what it is that makes life worth living.
And why is it that some of us welcome the idea of living forever, while others plan ahead and wish to go, while the going is still good.
