Exit Features in Dutch Radio ‘5 Days’ Program

Exit’s Philip Nitschke and Hans van Amstel Jonker both featured this week on NPO1 Radio’s 5 Days program.

Despite not speaking Dutch, Philip was pleased to be able to be interviewed in English with the program translating parts of the interview.

Hans is the long-time Dutch language translator of the Peaceful Pill eHandbook which is known in Dutch as Het handboek de Vredige Pil.

Philip’s Interview starts around the 16 minute mark.

Hans’ Interview begins around the 5 minute mark and carries through to the end.

The program devoted the entire week to the issue of self-determination at the end of life.

Others interviewed over other nights included CLW’s Frans Copini.

As programs like this demonstrate, the Dutch do not shy away from this controversial topic. Rather efforts are made to speak about it publicly, openly and factually.

It is this pragmatic approach which makes (and keeps) the Netherlands the world leader in the debate about end of life choices.
