More Staff Leave Pegasos for Athanasios
In 2025, the newest Swiss assisted suicide organisation, Athanasios, set themselves up in Basel.
Athanasios Founder, Carlos Cabrera, was the former senior nurse practitioner at Pegasos where he oversaw many clients’ final days and hours.
Others also moved over to support Carlos at Athanasios in creating an ethical, caring, responsive and cheaper end of life service.
In November 2026, Exit has learned that the exodus from Pegasos has not stopped.
The latest person to join the Athanasios team is Theodore Watts.
‘Theodore’ is well known to Exit as he had been employed at Pegasos since its early days.
Theodore’s decision to jump ship is momentous.
Theodore brings to Athansios years of experience in the administration of applications.
He is also unique as he speaks many languages including: English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and even Russian.
In a statement issued by Athanasios, Theodore says:
“I am delighted to begin this new chapter of my professional career with Athanasios Association in Switzerland.
My decision to join Athanasios reflects my commitment to working within an organisation that places ethical principles, professional integrity, transparency and respect for individual autonomy at the centre of its philosophy.
I believe that assisted dying requires not only medical expertise and careful consideration, but also compassion, accountability and the highest standards of professional conduct.
Athanasios offers an opportunity to contribute to an organisation with a clear vision for the future, one that values responsible innovation, continuous improvement and a deeply human approach to end-of-life care.
I look forward to contributing my experience and knowledge to the further development of its services, always with the dignity, safety and individual needs of applicants as our highest priorities.
For me, this represents an important and positive step forward, both professionally and personally.”
Another reason why Exit recommends Athanasios if you are planning an assisted death in Switzerland.
