Athanasios in London?
Following the intense interest shown at Exit's September Meeting in London with Swiss Athanasios Founder, Carlos Cabrera, the group is now planning to host a series of pop-up shops in the UK, to:
Allow Britains to ask questions of the Swiss process including:
- how to qualify
- how to apply
- the costs
- the situation with the law
- timelines & applications
- medical sign-off protocols & more
Interest is expected to be particularly strong, given the UK's recent and repeated failure to pass end of life laws.
Speaking during his Australian visit, Dr Philip Nitschke called it 'incredulous' that the UK Parliament has failed, yet again, to pass assisted dying legislation.
'Here I am in Australia to celebrate the fact that it was some 30 years ago that the Northern Territory implemented the world's first voluntary euthanasia law'. 'And here is the UK still unable move on this issue'.
'It is no wonder that terminally ill Brits have little choice but to head to Switzerland'!
Exit has announced that they expect a surge in interest in the Couples Double Dutch Sarco. Dr Nitschke said that he keenly awaits the outcome of the current criminal investigation into the first (and to date only) use of the device in Switzerland some 2 years ago.
The Peaceful Pill eHandbook is also now 'more important than ever' he said, in order for people to have choice and control in the manner/ timing of their passing.
Exit will report further on Athanasios' plans as soon as they come to light.
Exit's applauds the innovative thinking of the group, and especially their willingness to help those who do not (yet) have satisfactory laws in their home country.

No UK Law Until After Next Election
Sometimes it is easy to think that countries that speak different languages live in 'parallel worlds'.
On the one hand, there is the Netherlands where there is broad acceptance of people who are seriously (but not terminally) ill, or who have unbearable suffering, or who have dementia, or who are young, or who are children, to be able to get help to die.
And did we mention the strong community support for people over 75 (those who say they have completed life) to also get help?
On the other hand, is the UK which cannot even legislate for those who are terminally ill and likely to die < 6 months, to get the same help!
But even this, was a step too far for the Members of the House of Commons.
The 'good death' is an issue which many in UK politics hope will just go away. And maybe this time they have succeeded in their wish.
The issue is now, certainly, a 'dead one' until after the country's next election in 2029!
