Trump Does Not Support Assisted Dying
Until recently, assisted suicide was one of those issues that President Trump had kept quiet on.
|
As a libertarian(?) who prefers minimal government interference in private lives(?), it was just possible that he was a supporter.
|
But this was not to be. In speaking out on the issue, Trump took aim at the UK Prime Minister, Sir Kier Starmer.
|
On 20 June, the House of Commons passed the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) bill by 23 votes.
|
This bill is one of the most conservative ever passed by any parliament, anywhere.
|
Yet this was enough for Trump to come out and accuse the UK of promoting 'state-subsidised suicide’.
|
The US State Department would later add (as if the PR mouthpiece of White House) that it ‘reaffirms the sanctity of human life’.
|
