Maurice Gee calls NZ Law ‘Cruel & Intrusive'
Respected New Zealand author, Maurice Gee, was one of the very first Members of Exit International with a Membership Number of 1688.
|
With his recent death, Maurice’s family have highlighted the inequity of the existing medical model law in New Zealand.
|
An Exit Member for almost 20 years, Maurice had his drugs and he knew how to take them. And he left a note: all, as per the instructions in the Peaceful Pill eHandbook.
|
Maurice believed that it was his human right to die at a time of his choosing, not when he was seriously ill: as per the requirements of New Zealand’s voluntary assisted dying law.
|
Maurice was not seriously ill when he died. He was 93 and he had decided that now was the time to go.
|
Not being able to have his adult children with him when he died was what, he said, made the law ‘cruel and intrusive’.
|

Due to popular demand, Exit has cancelled our planned online London Workshop and confirmed Friday 26 September as the date for this year’s face-to-face workshop at Dragon Hall.

The Workshop will cover topics including: legal issues & the state of the ‘forthcoming’ UK law, DIY options involving drugs, poisons, gases, the Sarco, Switzerland and new inventions.

Exit has recently learned that the ‘Deliverance Machine’ (circa 1995-96) is no longer on open display at the British Science Museum because it was considered ‘too disturbing’ to viewers!
