Now Online
This week the March Snippet titled ‘Does Nembutal Cause Drowning’ is published as the May Update to the Peaceful Pill eHandbook.
The topic of this Snippet comes from the increasing body of scholarship that describes pulmonary edema in 84% of the autopsies of prisoners who have been executed using pentobarbital (Nembutal).
Anesthesiologist/ researcher Dr Joel Zivot argues that ‘the fluid is filling into the lungs and causing that terrible, uncomfortable drowning and choking sensation and that is the kind of death that is occurring in the setting of lethal injection'.
Yet no one in the right to die movement has any idea what Dr Zivot is referring to. This Snippet attempts to unpack what is happening here.

Readers are asked about their Mothers
My mother (99, highly educated) - After caring for her at home for five years, she has been living happily in a nursing home for four months. She is looking forward to her 100th birthday and enjoying life. I doubt she even knows what euthanasia is anymore, Deirdre
My mother had clearly laid out her wishes in documents ... but when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, we couldn’t do anything with them’, Jean
It is not unusual for people to change their minds and push their boundaries.
This is often difficult for loved ones to deal with’, Mary
When I bring this up, she says she has done everything she can. If I insist, she seems to think I want her to die. If I give up, she may be too late to carry out her wishes’, Caroline
