Exit Heroes in 2025

FLORIAN WILLET is an Exit Hero because he was the only person present when the Sarco was used in a remote Schaffhausen forest in Switzerland in September 2024. Cruelly held in pre-trial detention for 70 days (on jumped up homicide charges - now dismissed), when finally released from prison Florian was a broken man. Florian took his own life through assisted suicide in Germany in May 2025. His premature death leaves blood on the hands of the Swiss judicial system.

DEREK HUMPHRY took the big risks and led the way for Exit and the Peaceful Pill Handbook. As author of Final Exit, Derek paved the way in the distribution of practical information about how a rational adult could end their life peacefully and reliably (and without medical involvement). First published in 1991, the book caused moral panic yet the book (and Derek) not only survived, but prospered, reaching No. 1 on the NYT best seller list . LUDWIG MINELLI is best known as the founder of Dignitas in Switzerland. A break-away group from Exit Schweiz (the country’s biggest right to die organisation), Dignitas was the first assisted suicide clinic to welcome foreigners. For this, Minelli is an Exit Hero. While Exit has not always agreed with Dignitas and we bemoan their current conservative admission procedures (one must be very very sick to qualify), Exit stands in admiration of the founder of this ground-breaking organisation.
