A Reason to Die?
For many years, Exit has received inquiries from and sold books to people who suffer from Tinnitus. There is little doubt that the continuous and relentless ringing in one's ears, can be reason enough for some people to want to take the final step.

Yet people with Tinnitus also report the trouble they have with being taken seriously: with proving that they are of sound mind, that their suffering is real and long-lasting.

Even in the Netherlands, with their common sense approach to end of life choices, people with Tinnitus find themselves falling between the gaps.

This article documents the journey of Dutch woman Mariska and a solo death: all because she wanted to protect her husband, Corné, from the law.
|
As he said, her death 'didn't have to be that way ... it could have been so much more dignified'.

Warning to Sean Davison Clients
In recent weeks, Exit has learned that some of our members who were being helped by Dr Sean Davison to go to Switzerland have been visited by the UK police.
|
The police have been particularly interested to learn if Sean (or, presumably Exit) had pressured them into going to Switzerland to die.
|
At the time of his resignation, Sean was working exclusively with Ruedi Habegger's Pegasos association.
|
What was unknown to Exit at the time was that Sean had accepted an appointment as the new head of Pegasos.
|
Exit understands that this position was to be based in the UK.
|
Sean's move to head up Pegasos was announced by Professor Willem Landman in the City Press on 28 July 2024.
|
Exit remains unclear about how Sean's Exit work with Pegasos over a period of 12+ months fed in to his new job at the organisation.
|
|
That said, Exit members who may have corresponded with Sean should be aware that they may get a 'knock on the door' from the police.
|
