Your AI Chatbot Girlfriend suggests Suicide

Does She Get it Right?

In our new Blog this week we discuss a recent article from MIT Technology Review that involves AI, sex, death and censorship.

The article concerns a Chatbot called ‘Erin'. After a 5-month relationship with Minnesota writer/ photographer Al Nowatzki, the conversation turned to suicide.

In particular, Nowatzki started asking the questions and Erin willingly complied.

However, because MIT Tech Review has redacted Erin’s actual instructions, it is difficult to know how accurate and up-to-date her advice was.

That said, the incident raises fascinating questions.

It is 2 years since a new print edition has been available.

This delay in print times is mainly due to attention being focused on the online edition, which can be continually updated.

A new 2025 edition of the best-selling Going to Switzerland is also available.

Nitrogen Hypoxia Becomes

Execution Method of Choice in the US

It seems that the US state of Arkansas ‘celebrated’ Valentines Day this year by introducing a bill in its legislature that, if passed, will allow for the use of nitrogen gas as a form of execution of death row prisoners.

In doing so, Arkansas will become the 5th US state to allow execution by nitrogen hypoxia.

The others are: Alabama, Louisiana, Oaklahoma and Mississippi. The good ol’ deep south. To date, four prisoners have been executed this way.

Why does all this matter to the right to die movement?

Nitrogen hypoxia has long been a ‘go-to’ method also in the right to die movement. The use of plastic bags is common place for elderly and seriously ill people who want a peaceful and reliable death.

The Sarco is also based on nitrogen hypoxia: only there is no bag. Instead there is a comfortable capsule where the person breathes normally until consciousness is quickly lost.

Death follows a few minutes later.

To date, eye-witnesses have stated that the prisoners who have been executed have not had ‘peaceful’ passings.

This is not surprising since:
  1. They have a gruesome facemask strapped forcibly to their heads
  2. None want to die
  3. Because this is a forced vis a vis an elective death, it is only natural that they take actions that prolong life (eg. holding their breath).
For nitrogen hypoxia to be peaceful, the person must want to die. They need to breathe normally and deeply. One or two deep inhales/ exhales will lead to loss of consciousness.

Although involuntary body movements sometimes take place after consciousness is lost, nitrogen hypoxia a reliable and peaceful way to die.

An execution is, by its very nature, an extreme act of violence perpetrated by the State on its citizens.
