The Last Resort Zurich Press Conference
On Wednesday this week, The Last Resort (TLR) held its first press conference in Switzerland.
|
As the country's newest human rights organisation to work in the field of assisted dying, this was a baptism of fire (of sorts).
|
No one ever thought that the launch of new, free, assisted suicide group was going to be easy. This week proved that hunch true.
|
While it had not been the intention of the group to have a public launch, some especially spurious and fact-free media coverage started to take hold.
|
TLR lawyers advised that a press conference was needed to inject some truth and fact back into the public debate.
|
The facts presented at the press conference included: The Last Resort will make the Sarco available gratis, the Sarco has not been banned, the Sarco does not use anesthetic gas, the Sarco can only be operated from within the capsule, the Sarco is not a toy ... and so on.
|
The benefits of the Sarco over the existing drug-based regimes include:
|
- No risk of vomiting
- No risk of the IV tissuing (blocking)
- Doctors are removed from a role that many feel uncomfortable with
- Sarco is free to use
Of course, a doctor is required for the assessment of a person's mental capacity, as needed under Swiss law.

New PPeH Sarco & Swiss Options Update
July 2024
With the launch of The Last Resort this week in Zurich, Exit International will no longer be offering its Swiss programs. The website www.exitswitzerland.com is, therefore, also redirected.
|
From July 2024, Exit will be working exclusively with The Last Resort association.
|
To reflect this change, a new website has been launched, which focuses attention more directly upon the Exit publication Going to Switzerland: how to plan your final exit.
|
Of course, Going to Switzerland (the online book) and the Peaceful Pill eHandbook Essentials (also online) remain the go-to publications on learning more about end of life options. Both are continually updated.

Both books now reflect the new relationship between The Last Resort, the Sarco and Exit International and the recent developments in regard to the Swiss Option & the Sarco project.
