Reader feedback from South America has become overwhelming and we have been forced to act.

Gone are the days when you could go to Peru, buy your Nembutal over the counter, and die peacefully in a peaceful location, to the sound of the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean.

This means that for couples like Beverly & Athol Whiston who died together in Lima in 2018 (watch their video on the Exit Website), this option is no more.

We realise this is not the news that many of you wanted to hear, and it may not be the full story. We are still awaiting reports from Bolivia and some other South American countries that have previously been reliable suppliers.

Come to Canberra
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the world’s first legal, lethal voluntary injection under Australia’s Rights of the Terminally Ill Act.

On 22 September 1996, Exit Founder Dr Philip Nitschke helped prostate cancer sufferer, Bob Dent, to die.
|
This was the first case of legal voluntary euthanasia in the world. Bob was the first of four people who would use this ground-breaking law.
|
Ahead of its time, the Rights of Terminally Ill Act lasted only 9 months before it was overturned by a 'conscience vote' in the Parliament of Australia.
|
To celebrate Exit’s 30 years of end of life rights advocacy, we are convening our first conference in 10 years, this time in Canberra, the national capital of Australia.

Assisted Dying for the Very Old
In May 2018, Exit accompanied David to Lifecircle.
|
David's eloquence in explaining why he thought he had the right to die made headlines around the world.
|
In 2026, another very old man has died in Basel, this time at Athanasios Association.
|
On their website, Athanasios provide detailed testimonials of the way in which they work and how they approach the issue of assisted death for those who are very old.
