UK Couple Seek to use Double Sarco
Today's Daily Mail has published a very interesting read about UK couple Peter Scott (86) and his wife Christine (80) who have gone public with their desire to use the forthcoming 'double Sarco' at The Last Resort in Switzerland.
Peter was an engineer in the RAF. Christine is a former nurse. The Scotts have been married 46 years. In recent weeks, Christine has been diagnosed with dementia.
Exit International (together with The Last Resort) is now working top speed to ensure a couples' Sarco becomes available as soon as possible.
'We have had long, happy, healthy, fulfilled lives but here we are in old age and it does not do nice things to you' write the Scotts.
'The idea of watching the slow degradation of Chris' mental abilities in parallel to my own physical decline is horrific to me' he told the Mail Online.
The first use of the Sarco is expected in the coming months.

Dutch Seniors will not be told 'No'
Following hot on the heels of the June court case where 7 members of the Cooperative Last Will (CLW) were spared jail time for their role in the sourcing and distribution of Middel X, a new legal challenge has emerged.
This time, former Police Chief, 80-year old Dik van Oers, is leading a group who have purchased and are now distributing Middel X (sodium azide) amongst themselves.
Van Oers has divvied up the powder and distributed the passcode to a secure lock-up location where the other 19 members of the group have/ will come and collect their own stash of Middel X.
Van Oers has also written to the Dutch public prosecutor, Rinus Otte, trying to interest him in issuing legal action against him.
At the time of press, Otte has said that he is not interested and, furthermore, he will not speak further to Van Oers about his activities?
This instance of civil disobedience by 20 Dutch citizens is a clear pain in the neck for the Dutch authorities.
Just when they thought they had buried the issue of elderly people helping each other to have 'something in the cupboard in case things should turn bad', nothing is further from the truth.
Exit applauds the actions of Dik and his 'friends and associates': especially given that the 'Completed Life' Bill is going nowhere fast in the Dutch Parliament.
Nowhere in the world, other than the Netherlands, are the elderly taking matters into their own hands with such gusto.

Euthanasia Film Wins Venice Film Festival
Despite some dubious errors of fact, it is welcome news that Pedro Almodovar's new film The Room Next Door has won the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival.
The film is about two long-time friends (Martha & Ingrid) who reunite when one (Martha) gets cancer and puts an end of life plan in place.
Adapted from the 2020 book by Sigrid Nunez What are you going through, Martha says that she has bought 'euthanasia pills' on the dark web (Oh, if only it were so easy).
She goes on to explain that she will leave a note for the police, explaining that she alone is responsible for her fate (Sounds familiar?).
But she doesn’t want a stranger discovering her body. She says she wants to know that there is a friend in 'the room next door.' Ingrid is that friend.
We know we shouldn't be cynical but we await the day when an end of life film is accurate in its facts (Fact 1: Nembutal has rarely, if ever, been available on the Dark Web & Question 2: is Ingrid at legal risk for being in the same house as her friend at that critical moment?).
We eagerly await this new release.
