Campaign Launch

Nitschke Menzies Campaign Launch with the former Attorney General, the Widow and the Dying Voter

Independent candidate for the Victorian seat of Menzies, Dr Philip Nitschke, will hold his campaign launch tomorrow Monday 12 November at the Templewstowe RSL. Helping him launch the campaign will be:

Dr Nitschke said that the speakers would each provide a unique perspective into the reasons behind his candidacy for Menzies. All speakers had a strong personal interest in seeing the current member, the Minister for Immigration, Kevin Andrews, lose his seat.

Kep Enderby QC is a strongadvocate of human rights and strongly supports voluntary euthanasia. He condemns Andrews’ role in the overturning in 1997 of the Northern Territory Legislation that permitted VE in the NT andtook away from any ofthe Australian Territories anypower to legislate on VE

Don Flounders knows there is no lawful way he could get help to die if his life, as a result of his disease, become unbearable. He knows if it were not for the actions of Kevin Andrews, he would have been able to get help in the Northern Territory

Angelika Elliott says she was horrified to find that the only way her husband, John could get help to die with dignity was to travel 1000s of kilometres to Switzerland away from his Australian home.

Dr Nitschke said his campaign had raised over $120,000 from people around Australia; people who remain upset at the way politicians like Kevin Andrews have refused to recognise the wishes of the majority of Australian’s on end of life choice.

“While I am unlikely to win this seat, I am sure we can give Kevin Andrews a strong message, and not only in regard to Voluntary Euthanasia. He has also had a major role in policy areas such as Work Choices, he has mismanaged the Dr Haneef affair. His comments about Sudanese refugees and the lack of human rights of refugees on offshore detention centres are also totally unacceptable.

Andrews actions now make this a winnable seat and our preferences will therefore be vital.

The Launch will be at 11am Templestowe RSL (156 Parker St Templestowe).

It will be followed in the afternoon by a light lunch and an Exit workshop (booked out) by Dr Nitschke.
