The Peaceful Pill Handbook

NB: In a decision of 25 Feb 07 The Peaceful Pill Handbook was banned in Australia - it is still available overseas

In December 2006, the Office of Film and Literature Classification decided to provide The Peaceful Pill Handbook with a 'Restricted Class 1' Classification. This meant that althought the book was still a Prohibited Import and subject to seizure by Customs - the book could be published and distributed in Australia under strict controls.

On Jan 13 2007 the Federal Attorney General directed the OFLC to reconsider their decision. On 25 Feb the OFLC refused classification making it impossible to distribute the book in Australia. The book can however be purchased from Amazon.com

This gound breaking book sets out the rationale

behind Exit's Peaceful Pill Project (known as The Peanut Project).

Along the way, the authors examine how the medical profession has assumed "ownership" of death and reveal the real life restrictions that the legislative model of VE (law reform) places upon end-of-life choices.

Finally, the authors contend that the "universal model" offered by the "Peaceful Pill" could revolutionise euthanasia, just as the contraceptive pill transformed birth control a generation ago.

Mademoiselle & the Doctor

Mademoiselle and the Doctor is Australian Academy award-nominated filmmaker, Janine Hosking's second feature documentary.

The film tells the tale of healthy, 79 year old retired French academic, Lisette Nigot, who long decided to die in her 80th year.

"I do not take to old age very well" says Lisette in the film.

This controversial film examines the "tired of life" scenario of old age - "I want to go while the going is good". Lisette did not want to wait until illness or disability set in.

Directed by Janine Hoskings

In her thought-provoking examination of the right-to-die debate, filmmaker Janine Hoskings introduces viewers to Lisette Nigot, a healthy, witty 79-year-old French woman living in Australia. Having accomplished all she wanted to do with her life, Nigot says she does not want to celebrate her 80th birthday. For advice, she turns to Dr. Philip Nitschke, an advocate for euthanasia for terminally ill patients. Hoskings’s heartbreaking documentary follows the relationship of Nigot and Dr. Nitschke as they meet to discuss a “final project.”

Telling it Straight by John Edge

The life of John Edge and the death of Nancy Crick

Foreword by Marshall Perron

John Edge, with disarming honesty and engaging frankness, writes about his boyhood in post war Sydney and the early influences which shaped his life. With self-deprecating humour John writes about his family, the religious wars of Paddington and the impact his upbringing had on the man he has become. This is a memoir with a difference; it’s also an exploration of an important social issue. Passionate about a person’s right to decide the way life should end and active in the voluntary euthanasia movement, John became the confidante and supporter of Nancy Crick in the days before she ended her life. His fearless recounting of this time, his courage and his ongoing internal debate about the situation he and Nancy shared make riveting reading.John’s and Nancy’s stories are linked—two compelling stories told with honesty and sincerity. Telling it Straight is thoughtful, but irreverent, exactly like John Edge and Nancy Crick.
